TROY, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo teams concluded the fall portion of the schedule at Troy over the weekend, with the men’s team finishing second (370 points) and the women’s team finishing seventh (100 points).
UT Martin boasted the top two finishers in bareback riding. Tanner Phipps finished first in average (150) after placing first in the first go (78) and second in the second go (72). Tyler Waltz (146 average) also produced a pair of solid rounds, scoring 72 points in the first go and an event-best 74 points in the second go.
In calf roping, John Alley split third and fourth in the first go (9.8 seconds) while Clay Mitchell finished second in average (19.5 seconds) after ranking third in the short go (9.0 seconds).
Jacob Dagenhart finished fifth in the first go (5.8 seconds) and sixth in the short go (6.2 seconds) in steer wrestling while Alley split sixth in the first go with a time of 6.2 seconds.
In goat tying, Meredith McDonnell split fifth, sixth and seventh in the first go with a solid round of 8.9 seconds.
Clay Brewer and Greg Sullivan joined forces to bring home a third place finish in average (6.7 seconds on one) in team roping. The duo’s time of 6.7 seconds in the first go ranked as the best of the 10 times recorded.
Kayla Baier rounded out the successful outing for UT Martin, ranking third in the average (32.66 seconds) in barrel racing. She tallied times of 16.41 seconds in the first go (third) and 16.25 seconds in the second go (fifth).
UT Martin will now take a break for the holidays before kicking off its six-date spring schedule at Cossatot Community College on Feb. 20-22.
