MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s soccer team is set to take on SIUE in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8. Action between the Skyhawks and Cougars is set to get underway at 4 p.m. at Skyhawk Field.
After winning the OVC season crown for the second consecutive season, earning the right to host the OVC’s annual conference tournament, the Skyhawks (10-8-1, 8-2 OVC) are set to open tournament play against SIUE. UT Martin and SIUE met just two weeks ago with the visiting Cougars coming out victorious with the 1-0 decision.
The Skyhawks will turn to All-OVC members Hannah Fessenden, Mariah Klenke, Aoife Lennon and Alyssa Curtis to lead a team looking for its’ third consecutive tournament crown and NCAA Tournament appearance. Senior Abi Sanvee paces the Skyhawks with five goals scored and one assist for a total of 11 point on the season. All-Newcomer selection, Ellie Myrick, has three assists on the year and a team leading three assists.
Klenke mans the goal for the Skyhawks, tallying a league leading seven shutouts on the season. She has tallied five or more saves on eight occasions and tallied a 0.96 goals against average this season. Klenke has registered 84 saves on the season in over 1500 minutes played.
SIUE (13-4-3, 6-3-1 OVC) won their quarterfinal match against Eastern Illinois on Thursday evening, winning 2-1. The Cougars were paced by Tory Pitts pair of goals. Pitts goal just eight minutes into the match served as the first goal of the OVC Tournament. Goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley tallied one save on the evening while allowing a late goal to the Panthers.
