MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin’s Jeremy Butler has been named as a Week 8 honorable mention wide receiver by College Football Performance Awards and the Offensive Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association.
A 6-3, 205-pound senior out of Bradenton, Fla., Butler was one of just nine Football Championship Subdivision wide receivers recognized on the CFPA list. It was the sixth time in eight weeks that a Skyhawk football player had captured a TSWA award.
Butler tallied game-highs in receptions (10) and receiving yards (129) on Saturday against No. 22 Tennessee State. He got the Skyhawks on the scoreboard with a touchdown catch off a fade route pass from Jarod Neal. Saturday’s game represented his fifth career 100-yard receiving game while he hauled in his 15th touchdown in 17 career games at UT Martin.
Butler currently ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference and ninth nationally in receptions per game (7.1) and is fourth in the league in receiving yards per game (87.1). He also ranks 10th in the OVC in all-purpose yards (90.0 per game).
Overall, Butler has accumulated 50 receptions for 610 yards and five touchdowns through seven games in 2013.
The Skyhawks return to the gridiron on Saturday, Oct. 26 when it travels to OVC foe Austin Peay. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
