LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team registered a 3.5 team GPA for the 2012-13 academic year, ranking ninth amongst all colleges in the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 10 All-Academic Team rankings.
The NFCA Academic Awards program honors both collegiate and high school teams for their submitted GPAs from the 2012-13 academic year.
Nine players from UT Martin were recognized by the NFCA as scholar-athletes for the 2012-13 academic year last month.
Among the Skyhawks to be named were Leah Taylor, Morgan Lewis, Kelsey Dixon, Lindsey Feigl, Kenzi Tate, Deven Wilson, Casey Vincent, Sam McClure and Becca Williams.
In order to be recognized as a scholar-athlete, one must have acquired a 3.50 GPA for the year to quality for the individual honor.
“We strive to produce well rounded student-athletes,” said UT Martin head softball coach Donley Canary. “We recruit athletes which show the same competitive spirit in the classroom that they would on the playing field. Our assistant coaches work extremely hard with our players and I am very proud to work with these ladies as they receive numerous academics accomplishments.”
