MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team won 19 out of a possible 21 matches in its fall tournament against North Alabama this weekend at the newly-renovated Skyhawk Varsity Courts.
After sweeping all nine matches during Friday’s unveiling of the new courts, UT Martin followed that with a 10-2 performance on Saturday. Overall, the Skyhawks went 13-2 in singles and a perfect 6-0 in doubles action over the weekend.
“Friday night’s opening ceremony and the fan support we received gave our players a ton of energy,” UT Martin head coach Dennis Taylor said. “It was an exciting event for players and fans alike and the team would like to thank everyone that came out. They made it a very special evening for Skyhawk tennis.”
Freshmen Sarah Candeloro and Burcu Tari each went 3-0 in singles play to lead UT Martin. Katie McCall and Florence Nicole both tallied 2-0 singles marks while Jessica Silva and Ivon Simic went 2-1 and 1-1, respectively, in singles action.
In doubles play, the team of McCall and Candeloro went undefeated (2-0), as did the teams of Tari/Silva (2-0) and Simic/Nicole (2-0).
The Skyhawks will continue their fall slate with a tournament at Chattanooga on Sept. 27-29.
