MARTIN, Tenn. – Emily Keaton, a junior outside hitter on the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team, has been recognized as the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Volleyball Player of the Week.
A native of St. Charles, Mo., Keaton earned all-tournament accolades at the Country Inn and Suites Invitational last weekend – the second straight weekend she has earned a spot on an all-tournament team. She has helped UT Martin get off to a 6-2 start, which is tied for the best eight-match start to a season in the program’s Division-I history.
Keaton racked up double-figure kill totals in all five matches this week, slamming down a season-high 18 kills in four sets against UNC Asheville after hitting .391 (10 kills, one error) in 23 attempts against Charlotte. She added 15 digs and 14 digs against Chattanooga, resulting in double-doubles for both of those matches.
The 6-1 Keaton now has recorded seven double-digit kill matches in eight opportunities this season. In large part because of the consistent play of Keaton, the Skyhawks lead the Ohio Valley Conference with 452 kills (14.12 per set).
Keaton and the Skyhawks return to action in the Hampton Inn Bama Bash this weekend. UT Martin will square off against South Alabama and Arkansas State on Friday, Sept. 13 before concluding the tournament against Nicholls State and host Alabama on Sept. 14.
