EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team fell to Missouri Valley Conference power Evansville 3-0 at Arad McCutchan Stadium on Friday evening.
The Skyhawks (0-2-1) were led by junior Alyssa Curtis’s three shots while Aoife Lennon, Michelle Calmeyn, Dominika Conc, Ellie Myrick, Shelby Coleman and Ashlie Watson each tallied a shot each. Curtis, Lennon and Conc each tallied one shot on goal in the contest.
Junior Mariah Klenke tallied seven saves on the evening while allowing three goals in 90 minutes of action.
Evansville looked to senior Stephanie Thompson to get the Aces on the board by scoring the eventual game-winner in the 12th minute.
UT Martin would tally their first shot of the match at the 29:35 mark when Coleman’s shot went wide left. The Skyhawks would threaten with a goal of their own just two minutes later with a well-placed header by Lennon which resulted in a save by Simone Busby.
Watson would fire a shot as time nearly expired at the end of the first half, but the result was again wide left. The Skyhawks trailed the Aces 9-3 in the shot column going into the break while Klenke made four first-half saves.
Evansville would come out firing in the second frame, tallying the first three shots of the half in the opening four minutes of action. UE would later seal the victory with a pair of second-half goals by freshman Emily Griebel and sophomore Kayla Smith.
UT Martin will be back in action Monday, Sept. 2, when it travels to Nashville, Tenn. for a 7 p.m. contest against host Lipscomb. The Skyhawks will look to continue their recent success in the matchup, registering a 5-1 victory against Lipscomb on Sept. 9, 2012.
