MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin football team conducted its third and final scrimmage of the fall tonight, running 75 plays in situational game simulation mode at Hardy Graham Stadium.

Offensively, UT Martin generated eight touchdowns – led by a dynamic passing game. Redshirt sophomore Jarod Neal completed 16 of his 22 pass attempts for 312 yards and four touchdowns this evening, while redshirt sophomore Tyler Rice was a perfect 2-for-2 with a pair of touchdown passes in red zone opportunities.

Preseason All-American Jeremy Butler made plays all night, snagging nine receptions for 188 yards to go along with four touchdowns. Dylan Davis added three catches for 49 yards and a touchdown while Chris Thompson was responsible for a 16-yard touchdown catch as well.

On the ground, freshman Chauncey Ingram had 10 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown, while Najee Ray had two rushing attempts for 49 yards and a touchdown. DJ McNeil was next with four carries for 34 yards as the team compiled 164 yards on 34 carries as a whole.

The Skyhawk defense held the offense to three yards or less on 17 plays, including 12 for no gain or negative yardage. Senior linebacker Bobby Ellis led the way with five tackles while Ben Johnson and Deilouse Jackson each added three tackles apiece. Jordan Landry had a pair of stops with three pass breakups while DJ Roberts added two quarterback hurries.

Kicker Jackson Redditt nailed field goal attempts from 42-yards out and 19-yards out to round out the scrimmage.

“The offense executed well tonight and the defense didn’t play with enough energy as we wanted but we have high expectations for them – they will be ready,” UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson said. “We are still finding out who we are and moving people around but we are where we need to be.”

Tomorrow officially starts game week for the Skyhawks, as they prepare to take on in-state foe Chattanooga on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. CST.
