The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team is set to host Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State in a Saturday doubleheader on April 20. First pitch from Bettye Giles field is slated for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow shortly after the game one. The Skyhawks will then shift their focus to Eastern Kentucky as the Colonels come to town as part of a Sunday twinbill with a scheduled start time of 1 p.m.

The Skyhawks (29-13, 10-6 OVC) come into the matchup looking to snap a two-game losing streak after falling in games two and three of the Murray State series. Head coach Donley Canary is looking for his 400 career victory as he currently sits in fourth among active Ohio Valley Conference coaches with 399 victories. Despite dropping the series, the Skyhawks own a 9-2 home record and have not lost to a non-conference opponent on Bettye Giles Field in 2013.

Senior Leah Taylor leads the team with a .342 batting average, while hitting eight home runs and driving in 24 runs. Taylor leads the OVC with 34 stolen bases and is the first Skyhawk to steal over 100 career bases. Sophomores Kenzi Tate (.336) and Lauren Smith (.316) have combined to hit 19 home runs and drive in 69 runs on the season.

In the circle the Skyhawks rely on sophomores Casey Vincent and Tate to anchor the starting rotation. Vincent (12-5, 2.35 ERA) leads the team with 23 appearances and 14 complete games. Tate (15-3, 2.61 ERA) leads the team with 15 wins. The duo has combined to pitch 243.2 of the 291.2 total innings pitched on the season.

Morehead State comes into the weekend matchup sporting a 18-17 record while going 4-9 in OVC play. The Eagles hit .317 as a team while posting an impressive 3.32 team ERA. MSU leads on Elizabeth Wagner who leads the team with a .419 average along with three home runs and 18 RBIs. Amber Riddle posts a .388 average while cranking a team-best seven home runs and 34 RBIs. Katie Pfost picks up much of the slack in the circle, posting an 11-10 record with a 2.70 ERA.

The Skyhawks will look to continue their recent success in the series, posting a .737 winning percentage in the matchup while winning nine straight.
