MARTIN, Tenn. – Junior guards Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome, at The University of Tennessee at Martin, are the only two players on the same team who are ranked in the top 10 in the nation for points scored per game.
Butler, from Medina, is ranked seventh. She is averaging 22.0 ppg., while Newsome, from Millington, is ranked ninth. Newsome is averaging 21.9 ppg. The current statistics, released earlier this week by the NCAA, include games played through Sunday, Feb. 24.
Jim Wright, with the NCAA, said he does not remember having two players on the same team in the top 10 this year.
Also in the top 10 in points scored per game this week are Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike (22.7 ppg) and Baylor’s Brittney Griner (22.4 ppg).
The next Ohio Valley Conference player on the list of 250 players is Morehead State’s Terrice Robinson who is ranked at No. 62 with a 17.3 ppg.
