TENNIS TEAM FALLS IN WEEKEND ACTION AT EVANSVILLE, LIPSCOMB

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team nearly picked up its first win of the spring this afternoon at Lipscomb, but the Lady Bisons produced a 4-3 comeback win. On Friday, the Skyhawk tennis squad fell 6-1 at Evansville.

Against Lipscomb, UT Martin claimed the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Anna Winkelmann and Alice Laing earned an 8-2 win at No. 3 and moments later, Ivon Simic and Anna Marie Herbold clinched the point with an 8-6 victory at No. 1.

In singles play, Simic recorded a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1, while Herbold tallied a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles.

On Friday against Evansville, UT Martin battled until the end in every matchup before falling. The No. 3 doubles team of Laing and Winkelmann narrowly fell 9-8 at the No. 3 slot.

Winkelmann tallied a 6-1, 1-6 and 6-2 victory at No. 3, which was one of a trio of three-set affairs in the singles competition. Herbold (lost 2-6, 6-2, 6-0) and Silva (lost 5-7, 5-1, 12-10) also came up just short at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively.

The Skyhawks will return to action on their Spring Break trip, where they will take on five teams in the span of a week (March 2-8). The road swing begins at Middle Tennessee on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m.
