NEWSOME NAMED ADIDAS OVC PLAYER OF WEEK, MADNESS' PLAYER OF WEEK

MARTIN, Tenn. – Jasmine Newsome, a junior guard on The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team, has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her effort against Southeast Missouri State and Tennessee State.

Newsome also was named College Sports Madness’ Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her efforts against Southeast Missouri State.

The Millington product scored 27 points, going 13-of-14 from the floor in the victory over Southeast Missouri State. She followed that up with 31 points, including 24 in the first half, as UT Martin defeated host Tennessee State Monday night in Nashville.

Newsome shot 93.8 percent from the free throw line over the two games. She also hit seven 3-pointers to go with five assists and seven steals.

She is UT Martin’s second all-time leading scorer behind her teammate Heather Butler.

The Skyhawks are currently 8-5 in the OVC West and 13-14 overall. The Skyhawks return to action at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, when they play at Murray State, who is 7-6 in the OVC West and 15-10 overall.
