CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team battled this afternoon at Chattanooga, but the Skyhawks fell 7-0 at the UTC Tennis Courts.
UT Martin is now 0-2 in the young 2013 spring season, while Chattanooga improves to 6-0.
In doubles play, Ivon Simic and Anna Marie Herbold fell 8-1 at No. 1. Katie McCall and Johanie Van Zyl competed at No. 2, while Anna Winkelmann and Alice Laing took part at No. 3, both falling 8-2.
Van Zyl fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, while Simic dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 1. Herbold (6-0, 6-2) and Jessica Silva (6-2, 6-0) fell at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively, while Winkelmann fell 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3. Laing nearly picked up a singles victory at No. 5 but fell in a tough 6-1, 3-6, 10-5 decision.
The Skyhawks return to action next Saturday, Feb. 23 when they travel to Evansville for a 7 p.m. matchup.
