NCEA NAMES UT MARTIN'S BERGENTY STUDENT-ATHLETE FOR JANUARY

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kara Bergenty, a senior at The University of Tennessee at Martin, has been named the Equitation Over Fences student-athlete for the month of January by The National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA).

The following student-athletes were also selected by the NCEA for their accomplishments during the month of January:

•Horsemanship: Katy Krshka (Oklahoma State)

• Reining: Taylor New (Oklahoma State)

• Equitation on the Flat: Leighona Bernstein (Oklahoma State)

Bergenty was the top Equitation on the Flat in January, going 1-1 with an 80-77 victory over Delaware State on Jan. 25. She went 3-1 overall in Hunt Seat action for the Skyhawks, who began their spring schedule with meets against the Hornets and Oklahoma State. The Farmington, Conn. native has a 3.75 GPA and recently was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner Honor Roll for the third straight time. She is also a team captain for the Skyhawks and is on the school's student-athlete advisory council.
