MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team will look for the season sweep over fellow Ohio Valley Conference West rival SIU Edwardsville when the two teams clash at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Saturday, Feb. 9. The game – a “White Out” contest that will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Midwest and locally on Fox Sports South – will start at noon.
The Skyhawks (6-17, 3-8 OVC) played one of their most complete games of the season against the Cougars in their 65-62 victory in Edwardsville on Jan. 26. In that game, UT Martin built a steady lead from the start and only trailed for 28 seconds late in the contest. Mike Liabo compiled a game-high 16 points, while Myles Taylor racked up a double-double (12 points to go along with a career-best 14 rebounds) and Jeremy Washington tied a season-high with 15 points for the Skyhawks.
SIU Edwardsville (8-12, 4-6 OVC) is coming off a 76-67 road loss at Southeast Missouri on Thursday night. The Cougars led by as many as 10 points in the first half before Southeast Missouri mounted its comeback. Jerome Jones hit six 3-pointers and poured in a career-best 31 points - including 19 of SIU Edwardsville’s first 23 points. Kris Davis (13 points, game-high seven assists) and Mark Yelovich (11 points, seven rebounds) also scored double-figures for the Cougars.
