TAYLOR EARNS ADIDAS OVC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

February 4, 2013

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced this afternoon that Myles Taylor, a 6-7 sophomore forward on The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team, has been named the league’s adidas Player of the Week.

This is the first career Player of the Week honor for Taylor, who was a five-time OVC Freshman of the Week recipient last season on his way to capturing the league’s Freshman of the Year award.

A native of Little Rock, Ark., Taylor helped guide the Skyhawks to their second straight OVC victory last Thursday – a 72-65 win over Eastern Kentucky. The victory resulted in a three-way tie for third place in the OVC West, as UT Martin is now just 1.5 games out of second place in its division with six league games remaining in the regular season.

In the Eastern Kentucky game, Taylor logged the full 40 minutes, tossing in a game-high 21 points to go along with a career-best 14 rebounds for the second consecutive game. His tenacious effort on the glass allowed UT Martin to outrebound Eastern Kentucky by a 51-26 margin.

Taylor converted five of his 11 field goal attempts and also went 11-for-13 from the free throw line while adding an assist and a steal against the Colonels, who were limited to a season-low 35.4 field goal percentage for the game.

Taylor currently ranks in the top-five in the OVC in scoring (16.8 points per game) and rebounding (8.1 per game). As a team, the Skyhawks rank atop the OVC in rebounding, hauling in 37.5 boards per game.

UT Martin continues its four-game homestand on Thursday, Feb. 7 against Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m.
