MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle teams will battle against four other squads for a chance to be crowned Ohio Valley Conference champions on Feb. 2-3 at the Button Rifle Range on the campus of Morehead State University.
Both UT Martin teams have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success this season. The mixed squad fired a program record 4,601 aggregate score at Memphis in its season-opener and also set a school record with a 2,331 air rifle score two weeks ago at Murray State. Another bit of school history was set earlier this season when both teams were ranked in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association top-20 national poll, as the mixed team was ranked 13th and the women’s squad came in at No. 18 on Oct. 8.
The mixed team boasts a season cumulative average of 4,565, while the women’s team averages 4,444.6 aggregate points. Both teams will take on the likes of host Morehead State, Jacksonville State, Murray State and Columbus State – who is in its first year of competing for the OVC championship.
The two-day event begins with smallbore relays from 7 a.m. through approximately 6 p.m. CST on Saturday, Feb. 2. New relays will begin at 7 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 3, the air rifle portion of the event gets underway, starting at 7 a.m. CST and lasting through approximately 1 p.m. The awards ceremony honoring the league champion and All-OVC teams will take place soon thereafter.
The conference champion advances to the NCAA championships, held on March 8-9 in Columbus, Ohio.
