NINETY PERCENT OF UT MARTIN SOFTBALL TEAM MAKES UNIVERSITY HONOR ROLL

January 17, 2013

MARTIN, Tenn. – Ninety percent of The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team made the Dean’s List for the fall semester and the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament champions sported a 3.43 Grade Point Average (GPA).

“It is the highest GPA I can remember our team having since I came to UT Martin eleven years ago,” UT Martin head coach Donley Canary said.

Seventeen out of 19 players on the team made the Dean’s List and four players earned a perfect 4.0.

“I never had 17 players on one team make the Dean’s List,” Canary said.

Students or student-athletes must make a minimum GPA of 3.20 and be enrolled in at least 12 hours to make the University Honor Roll (formerly the Dean’s List).

“I attribute 90 percent of this success to our assistant coaches, Ashley Archer and Daniel Farmer,” Canary said. “Both coaches worked extremely hard to monitor players’ grades throughout the semester.”

The UT Martin softball team is no stranger to academic success. Under the direction of Canary the team has been ranked as high as the top 10 for grades among teams in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
