WOMEN'S HOOPS HEAD TO SHOW ME STATE FOR OVC SHOWDOWN WITH SEMO

The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will venture to the Show Me State as it focuses on OVC West foe Southeast Missouri. Action is set for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The Skyhawk women (7-11, 2-2 OVC) enter the game coming off a defeat at the hands of Belmont, 58-56, as the final shot by Rickiesha Bryant glanced off the rim as time expired.  Juniors Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome finished with 17 points, while senior Rickiesha Bryant scored 10 points. Freshman Katie Schubert tallied 10 first half rebounds, finishing with a career-high 13 rebounds in the game.

Butler heads into the Show Me Center needing only six points to pass Mary Kate Long on the all-time scoring list with 1,754 points. The OVC’s leading scorer holds a 22.0 ppg career average against the Redhawks including 27 points in the previous matchup in Cape Girardeau. 

Southeast Missouri enters the OVC bout with a 2-2 OVC slate and an 8-9 overall record. The Redhawks had their three-game winning streak snapped against Tennessee State Monday night 68-58.

Junior Jordan Hunter leads the Redhawks with 11.2 points per game including a team-best 17 points and seven assists at Tennessee State. Senior Bailie Roberts posts 10.4 points per game along with a game-high 13 rebounds the last time out.

The Skyhawks currently hold a six game win streak against the Redhawks including three-straight victories on the road.
