MARTIN, Tenn. - Fresh off its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season, The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team will look to keep the momentum going when it travels to Tennessee State on Thursday, Jan. 10. Tip-off from the Gentry Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
A gritty effort down the stretch led to the Skyhawks coming out on top of a 76-74 overtime decision last Saturday against Austin Peay. In that game, UT Martin (4-12, 1-3 OVC) trailed by double-digits in the second half before forcing overtime, where Myles Taylor sank a pair of free throws with 0.1 seconds left on the clock. Taylor ended his evening with his eighth career double-double (19 points, career-best 13 rebounds) while Mike Liabo led the team in scoring off the bench with 21 points.
Tennessee State (9-7, 3-0) enters the game on a four-game winning streak, with three of those wins coming against OVC squads. Last Saturday, the Tigers overcame a two-point halftime deficit to claim a 66-57 victory at Jacksonville State. Double-doubles by Kellen Thornton (14 points, 14 rebounds) and MJ Rhett (10 points, 16 rebounds) paced Tennessee State, while Patrick Miller (19 points) and Jordan Cyphers (11) also reached double-figures in the scoring column.
