SOCCER TEAM EARNS NSCAA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD

MARTIN, Tenn. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has rewarded The University of Tennessee at Martin for its academic excellence during the 2011-12 year.

The Skyhawks are one of 504 women’s collegiate teams that posted a team Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award. UT Martin boasted a 3.20 team GPA for the 2011-12 academic season and sported 11 players on the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

In addition to its academic success, UT Martin has also registered its two most successful seasons in program history under head coach Phil McNamara. The Skyhawks have made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and won their first OVC Tournament championship (2011) and first-ever outright OVC regular season title (2012). In the process, UT Martin has broken 14 school records and notched a 27-13-5 record (.656 winning percentage).
