FOOTBALL PLAYERS EARN NATIONAL HONORS FOR EFFORT AGAINST TSU

MARTIN, Tenn. – Seniors Jason McNair and Quentin Sims have been named National Players of the Week by College Football Performance Awards for their efforts in this past Saturday’s 35-26 victory over No. 23 Tennessee State.

McNair was named a National Punt Returner of the Week. He had two punt returns for 72 yards and a 75-yard return for a TD to give the Skyhawks a 21-3 lead with 8:01 to play in the second quarter. He finished the game with 145 all-purpose yards.

Sims was named a National Wide Receiver of the Week. He set the OVC single-season receiving touchdown record (16). He caught eight passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns.

Sims caught a 32-yard touchdown pass with 10:58 to play in the first quarter and added a season-long 50-yard touchdown three minutes later to put UTM up 14-0. His final touchdown of the day, a 33-yarder, came with 1:10 to play and put the game out of reach.

Sims caught at least one touchdown pass in every Skyhawk game in 2012 and finished the year with 86 catches (sixth-most in OVC history) for 1,092 yards (10th-most in OVC history).
