MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team makes its debut in the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Soccer Championships at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 against Southeast Missouri at Skyhawk Field.
No. 4 Southeast Missouri (7-9-4) advanced earlier on Thursday with a 1-0 win over Belmont. In the quarterfinals nightcap, SIU Edwardsville tied Eastern Kentucky 0-0 and advanced on a 5-4 penalty kick shootout.
In their regular season matchup, the Skyhawks tied Southeast Missouri 1-1 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. in both teams’ OVC opener on Sept. 25. Southeast Missouri scored 1:43 into the match before UT Martin senior Kendyl Wilson knotted the score at 1-all off a pass from Dominika Conc in the 33rd minute. From that point on, neither side could generate much offense, although the Skyhawks put 13 of their 19 shot attempts on goal. In goal, Mariah Klenke made four saves – including clutch stops in the 83rd and 103rd minutes to ensure the match ended in a draw.
UT Martin sports a 2-1-1 record in its last four matches against Southeast Missouri at Skyhawk Field. The Skyhawks are 2-1 all-time in OVC Tournament matches played in Martin, having not lost since 2003.
Admission is free to all matches during the OVC Tournament. After UT Martin’s 4 p.m. semifinals matchup, No. 2 Austin Peay takes on No. 6 SIU Edwardsville at 7 p.m. The winner of those two matches then face each other for the league’s tournament championship on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
