MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin will play host to the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Soccer Championship, which will be played at Skyhawk Field on Nov. 1-4.
The Skyhawk soccer team clinched their first outright OVC regular season championship on Sunday with a 6-0 win against Tennessee Tech, earning the top seed and right to host the league tournament.
Action begins on Thursday, Nov. 1 with a pair of quarterfinal matches. No. 4 Southeast Missouri (6-9-4, 5-3-2 OVC) will take on No. 5 Belmont (8-8-2, 4-4-2 OVC) at 4 p.m., followed by a matchup between No. 3 Eastern Kentucky (10-7-2, 6-3-1 OVC) and No. 6 SIU Edwardsville (7-7-3, 4-4-2 OVC) at 7 p.m.
The league’s top two seeds then make their tournament debuts on Friday, Nov. 2 in the semifinals. No. 1 UT Martin (11-5-3, 8-1-1 OVC) will battle the winner of the Southeast Missouri/Belmont matchup at 4 p.m., followed by No. 2 Austin Peay (11-7-1, 7-2-1 OVC) taking on the winner of Eastern Kentucky/SIU Edwardsville at 7 p.m.
An off day follows before the championship match occurs at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. The winner of that match earns the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
