MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team hosts its one and only exhibition game of the fall on Saturday, Oct. 20, when it will take on the Mid-Continent University Cougars at Skyhawk Field. A pair of seven-inning games will be played beginning at noon and all fans are invited to come out and watch the games.
UT Martin returns 25 players (14 positioned players, 11 pitchers) from last season’s squad and welcome nine newcomers in 2013. Nine Skyhawks started in at least half of the games in which they appeared in last season, while the pitching staff returns seven hurlers who logged at least 14 appearances in 2012.
Skyhawk head coach Bubba Cates enters his 15th season at the helm of the UT Martin baseball program and 23rd season overall as a collegiate baseball coach.
Mid-Continent, an NAIA school located just up the road in Mayfield, Ky., competes in the TranSouth Conference. Head coach Shawn Yarbrough enters his fifth season in charge of the Cougar program.
