FOOTBALL TEAM ENDURES THREE CONSECUTIVE WEEKS OF PRESEASON CAMP

August 13, 2012

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawk football team is taking an unusual route to prepare for the upcoming season. The Skyhawks have been working almost every day since the beginning of fall camp on Aug. 8.

A typical camp day usually starts at 7:15 with breakfast, followed up with a team walk-thru and weight lifting. Position and team meetings follow and practice usually starts around 7:15 p.m.

“We will go three consecutive weeks, from August 8 to the 25th when school starts,” head football coach Jason Simpson said. “We should finish with about 24 or 25 practices and then go right into game week when school starts.”

Practices have been especially demanding this week with the coaches running the players through two-a-day practices on Saturday. The team is set for its second two-a-days today (Monday), and will wrap up two-a-days on Friday.

The Skyhawks will host their first scrimmage of the season at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15 at Hardy M. Graham Stadium.
