UTM Game Notes
The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will put its season-long five-game winning streak to the test on Saturday, Feb. 10 when playing host to Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled for 4 p.m. and serves as the front end of a doubleheader with the Skyhawk men’s team.
The Skyhawks (13-12, 9-4 OVC) moved over .500 in the win column for the first time this season with a strong showing at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday evening. UT Martin never trailed in the contest while forcing 22 turnovers and placing five players in double figures en route to a 72-54 road victory. Kendall Spray paced the squad with 19 points while Ashton Feldhaus tallied 13 points in her final collegiate contest in her hometown of Richmond, Ky. The trio of Janekia Mason (12 points), Chelsey Perry (11 points) and Maddie Waldrop (11 points) also scored in double figures.
During UT Martin’s current season-long five game winning streak, the Skyhawks have notched a pair of home victories while picking up three on the road. Offensively, UT Martin has averaged 77.0 points per game while holding its opponents to just 59 points for a scoring margin of +18. During the span, Spray has led the squad in scoring, tallying 22.2 points per game while entering Saturday’s contest just three made three-pointers off the program’s single-season three-point record of 105 set by Heather Butler in 2012-13
Southeast Missouri (11-14, 6-7 OVC) enters the contest having dropped its past two contest, including a 60-58 overtime setback at Morehead State on Thursday night. The Redhawks feature three players who averaging in double figures with Tesia Thompson (13.0 ppg), Ashton Luttrull (11.2 ppg) and Adrianna Murphy (11.0 ppg) leading the way.
Saturday’s contest marks the 65th meeting in series history between the two programs with UT Martin holding a 34-30 series advantage. This is the first meeting between the two conference foes of the season after splitting the two-game series last year, with both teams picking up victories on their opponent’s home court. Overall, UT Martin has won 14 of the last 15 matchups against Southeast Missouri dating back to 2009-10 campaign.
