MARTIN, Tenn. – There was little movement in the Nov. 7 edition of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Farnam top-10 rankings, as the University of Tennessee at Martin remained at No. 10 in the polls.
Seven teams stayed the same spot as last weekend’s rankings, including each of the top six positions. Georgia held down the No. 1 spot and was followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 SMU, No. 5 Fresno State and No. 6 Oklahoma State. Baylor moved up a spot to No. 7 while TCU (No. 8) and South Carolina (No. 9) each slid down one position. The Skyhawks held steady at No. 10 for their fifth consecutive week in the NCEA poll.
UT Martin has cemented its status as one of the best teams in the nation, going toe-to-toe with a trio of ranked opponents so far in 2017-18. The Skyhawks have posted a 71.2 scoring average in equitation on the flat on their way to six team points (including one MOP). In equitation over fences, UT Martin has generated seven points and one MOP on a 79.5 scoring average. The Skyhawks have produced two MOP’s and five team points to go along with a 70.6 scoring average in horsemanship while tallying five team points and a 63.8 scoring average in reining.
After a month away from official competition, the Skyhawks return to action this week in the star-studded Masterson Farms Invitational hosted by UT Martin. The event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 9 and Friday, Nov. 10. The first round features head-to-head matchups between No. 4 SMU/Delaware State and No. 5 Fresno State/No. 10 UT Martin on Friday at 10 a.m. The two winners will then collide for the tournament championship while the consolation match will also take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
