IDEMUDIA'S MATCH-HIGH 14 KILLS NOT ENOUGH FOR SKYHAWKS AT OVC LEADING AUSTIN PEAY

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team traveled to Ohio Valley Conference leader Austin Peay this evening, falling 3-0 to the host Governors (19-25, 18-25, 18-25) at the Dunn Center.

Senior middle blocker Jemima Idemudia accounted for a match-high 14 kills with only four errors tonight, hitting .333 in 30 attempts. Hannah Phillips added eight kills against just two miscues while Kenzie Hinshaw handed out 26 assists for the Skyhawk offense. Brooke Gyori’s 11 digs led the way for UT Martin (11-15, 5-8 OVC).

The Skyhawks got off to a quick start, as back-to-back Megan Fair kills provided UT Martin with an early 3-0 lead. Another kill by Fair pushed the Skyhawk advantage out to four points at 7-3 before a solo block by Macy Reigelsperger made the score 9-4. Back-to-back Idemudia kills kept UT Martin’s lead to three points (15-12) but the Skyhawks committed five straight attack errors as the Governors grabbed the momentum, ending the set on a 13-4 run.

Idemudia (five kills), Hinshaw (12 assists) and Gyori (five digs) paced UT Martin in the opening stanza.

Austin Peay (25-4, 12-1 OVC) scored five of the first six points of the second set but Reigelsperger dialed up kills on consecutive possessions to pull the Skyhawks back within a single point at 5-4. UT Martin stayed within striking distance until a 4-0 Governor surge made the score 12-6. Idemudia accounted for three straight Skyhawk points via kills but Austin Peay recorded six of seven points during one stretch to go on top, 21-11. UT Martin answered with a 6-2 run but could not complete the comeback.

The Skyhawks were paced by five Idemudia kills while Hinshaw assisted on 10 of UT Martin’s 13 kills in the second set.

The Skyhawks led for a large portion of the third set, as Justine Walker had a kill and 1.5 blocks during to help UT Martin claim a 4-1 edge. Austin Peay crawled back within one point (8-7) but the Skyhawks reeled off three straight points to go ahead by a 10-6 margin. Fair slammed down a kill to keep UT Martin’s lead at 15-12 but the Governors took their first lead of the set after a 5-0 run made the score 17-15. Kills by Fair and Phillips trimmed the Skyhawk deficit to one point but Austin Peay wrapped up the set with seven of the final eight points.

Kelly Lean accumulated team-highs of five assists and four digs in the last set for UT Martin.

The Skyhawks conclude their four-match road swing on Saturday, Nov. 4 when they travel to Murray State for a 2 p.m. match. UT Martin will go for the season sweep over the Racers, as the Skyhawks defeated Murray State by a 3-1 margin at home on Sept. 29.
