MARTIN, Tenn. – Skyhawk fans will get their first glimpse at the 2017-18 University of Tennessee at Martin basketball squads on Monday, Nov. 6 at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Picked to finish third at OVC Media Day last week, the Skyhawks boast three Preseason All-OVC honorees in senior Ashton Feldhaus, sophomore Kendall Spray and junior Myah Taylor. Feldhaus averaged 11.0 points and a team-high 5.1 rebounds per game while Spray tossed in team-highs of 12.5 points per game and 89 three-pointers last season. The UT Martin men’s team returns four players from last season’s squad that tied a school record with 22 victories while winning a postseason game for the third consecutive season. Head coach Anthony Stewart is in his second season with the Skyhawks after he was a finalist for the 2017 Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year last spring.
Senior guard Matthew Butler was named to the Preseason All-OVC squad after averaging 13.7 points and 3.7 assists per game last season. Butler will be joined by Delfincko Bogan, Mike Fofana, Jailen Gill, Fatodd Lewis, Terrence Parker and Lorenzen Wright, Jr. on the Blue squad that will go against an Orange team that includes Kahari Beaufort, Jerome Davis, Parrish Hewitt, Kevin Little, Darius Thompson, Dalen Victor and Dominique Williams. The “Blue vs. Orange” game will consist of two halves of 14-minutes with a running clock.
Both UT Martin teams begin their 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10. The Skyhawk women’s team opens at Southern Illinois while the UT Martin men’s squad travels to Marshall.
