SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN RANKED 10TH IN NEWEST NCEA NATIONAL POLL

MARTIN, Tenn. – For the fourth straight week, the University of Tennessee at Martin is grouped amongst the nation’s best as the Skyhawks are ranked 10th in the latest National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll presented by Farnam.
UT Martin was previously ranked No. 9 for the last two weeks after first cracking the polls at No. 10 on Oct. 10. This marks the 13th instance where the Skyhawks have been ranked since the NCEA released its initial top-10 poll during the 2012-13 season.
Georgia came in at No. 1 in today’s rankings and was followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 SMU, No. 5 Fresno State, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 TCU, No. 8 South Carolina, No. 9 Baylor and No. 10 UT Martin.
The Skyhawks have been off from official competition since for nearly a month, as UT Martin upended No. 10 Delaware State by a 9-6 margin on Oct. 7. The Skyhawks also narrowly fell to No. 3 Auburn (13-7 on Sept. 22) and No. 8 TCU (8-7 on Oct. 6) to start off the 2017-18 campaign.
In equitation on the flat, Randi LaChance and Monika Zoromski lead the way with two team points while the trio of Abbie Hopkins, LaChance and Zoromski have secured a team-high two points in equitation over fences. Tess Baumann (horsemanship), Liana Nowak (reining) and Madeline Williams (reining) have each accumulated a team-best two points in their respective events.
Hopkins (two in equitation over fences), Baumann (two in horsemanship) and LaChance (one in equitation on the flat) have combined for five MOP performances for UT Martin thus far in 2017-18.
The Skyhawks conclude their fall season on Nov. 9-10 when they host the two-day, four-team Skyhawk Invitational at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion. The head-to-head matchups – which will be officially released on Monday, Nov. 6 – include No. 4 SMU, No. 5 Fresno State, No. 10 UT Martin and formerly ranked Delaware State.
