NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Head men’s basketball coach Anthony Stewart and associate head men’s basketball coach Jermaine Johnson represented the University of Tennessee at Martin at the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer Tennessee Tip-Off Reception held last night at the Vanderbilt Commodore Ballroom.

Stewart was joined by fellow head coaches Casey Alexander (Lipscomb), Rick Barnes (Tennessee), Rick Byrd (Belmont), Scott Combs (Martin Methodist), Kermit Davis (Middle Tennessee), Bryce Drew (Vanderbilt), Matt Figger (Austin Peay), Steve Forbes (East Tennessee State), Dana Ford (Tennessee State) and Tubby Smith (Memphis).

Presented by the Loveless Café, the Tennessee Tip-Off event boosted enthusiasm and featured a unique meet-and-greet opportunity with some of the state’s most prominent head coaches during an evening of basketball banter. The function included an auction to raise funds and support the American Cancer Society’s life-saving mission.

The event was hosted by Sean Farnham (ESPN), Braden Gall (102.5 The Game ESPN Radio Nashville) and Jason Fitz (102.5 The Game ESPN Radio Nashville). Former Austin Peay head men’s basketball coach Dave Loos and former Valparaiso men’s basketball coach Homer Drew served as guest speakers.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year round awareness efforts, fundraising activities and advocacy programs. Since 1993, coaches have raised nearly $100 million for the American Cancer Society.
