MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team wraps up its trip through Kentucky this Sunday, Oct. 1 as the Skyhawks travel to Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.

UT Martin’s last three matches played in Murray, Ky have resulted in one win (2-1 on Sept. 29, 2013), one loss (4-3 on Oct. 2, 2015) and one tie (2-2 on Sept. 23, 2011). The Skyhawks played a close match in last season’s contest, falling in a narrow 2-1 decision.

UT Martin (4-7-2, 2-2 OVC) is coming off a tough weekend where it dropped a pair of matches to Eastern Kentucky (1-0) and Morehead State (4-2). The Skyhawks look to turn things around with an extra day off on Friday.

UT Martin dropped a heartbreaker to Eastern Kentucky last Friday as the Skyhawks could not answer the Colonels’ one goal. However, the Skyhawks allowed only nine shots and put up eight of their own. Amy McGivern tallied four shots (three on goal) while goalkeeper Erica Myers made three saves in all 90 minutes played.

Two days later, UT Martin found itself involved in a shootout against Morehead State. The Skyhawks netted a pair of goals early in the first half but allowed three unanswered goals to close out the first period and one after the halftime break. Katelyn Colvin and Danae Kaldaridou accounted for UT Martin’s two goals.

The Skyhawks currently rank first in the OVC in assists (15) and rank second in shots per game (16.46), ranking 45th in the nation in that category. Myers paces the OVC in goalie minutes played (1081:05) and is good for eighth in the nation in the category as well. Colvin’s five assists lead the OVC and is also ranked 32nd in the nation.

Murray State (7-1-1, 2-0-1 OVC) boasts three different OVC Players of the Week. Harriet Withers has won the offensive award twice this season while Alex Steigerwald and Nyomi Devine are the reigning goalkeeper and defensive winners, respectively. Withers (nine goals) and Rebecca Kubin (four goals) lead the Racers offensively. Steigerwald (38 saves, 0.86 GAA) has played all 838:25 between the goalposts for fourth-year head coach Jeremy Groves.
