SKYHAWK SOCCER DROPS DEFENSIVE BOUT TO EASTERN KENTUCKY 1-0
September 22, 2017
RICHMOND, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team could not outlast the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, falling 1-0 this afternoon.
UT Martin (4-6-2, 2-1 OVC) was able to muster eight shots to Eastern Kentucky’s nine. Amy McGivern led the way for the Skyhawks by providing four shots (three on goal). Danae Kaldaridou, Kamryn Chappell, Alice Adams and Vanessa Dwumfour-Poku tallied one shot each in the defensive battle.
UT Martin goalkeeper Erica Myers saw her two-match scoreless streak snapped in the 36th minute as Bailly Bounds netted the game-winning goal for the Colonels. Myers was able to pick up three saves in all 90 minutes between the posts.
Looking to get on top first, Adams found some space at the 6:47 mark to reel off a shot but Eastern Kentucky goalkeeper Anna Hall was able to scoop up the ball. McGivern fired away at the net in the 17th minute but another save was in the cards for Hall.
UT Martin found an advantage in the shots column in the second half by outshooting the Colonels’ six to two. McGivern found room in the 63rd minute but the Eastern Kentucky goalkeeper was there for the stop. Another Skyhawk shot came from Dwumfour-Poku as she looked for the game-tying shot at the 72:27 mark but was picked up by Hall. Two more shots came in just a little over a minute apart as McGivern (76:27) and Kaldaridou (77:49) both put a shot on goal.
McGivern would give it one last try at the 86:02 mark as she heaved a shot at the goal but to no avail.
The Skyhawks continue their tour of the Bluegrass State as they travel to Morehead State on Sunday, Sept. 24. First touch is set for noon CST.
