JACKSON, Miss. – A pair of second half goals put the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team back in the win column against Jackson State this afternoon as the Skyhawks beat the Tigers 2-1.
The UT Martin (2-3-2) offense was led by goals from reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Week Amy McGivern and Danae Kaldaridou while freshman Isabella Roberts picked up a career-high two assists in the bout. Kaldaridou had two shots on the evening (both on goal) as McGivern tallied five total shots (two on goal).
Katelyn Colvin (five shots, four on goal), Ashley Levingston (four shots, three on goal) and Roberts (three shots, three on goal) all set season highs in the shot column as the Skyhawks outshot Jackson State by a 27-10 margin.
Makenzie Crawford started between the goal posts this afternoon, tallying a season-high six saves with just one goal allowed over the full 90 minutes in the contest.
The lone Tiger goal came in the 30th minute off of a corner kick that found Ariel Vinson, who gave Jackson State a 1-0 advantage that it would carry into the halftime break.
UT Martin tied the score after 72:15 of action as Roberts connected with Kaldaridou for her third goal of the season and seventh score in just over a year in a Skyhawk uniform.
Coming off of a weekend in which she set a new program match-high in shots (14), McGivern was tasked with making sure the Skyhawks finished the game in regulation. Her goal came at the 81:18 mark as she took a pass from Roberts and netted her third goal of the 2017 campaign.
UT Martin defenders out-worked the Tigers in the second half as the Skyhawks held Jackson State to just two shots in the period.
