Madness 2017 Preseason FCS Football All-American Teams
MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin senior offensive guard Robert Burleigh garnered the program’s fourth all-american honor of the season after being tabbed to 2017 FCS Preseason All-American third team by College Sports Madness. Burleigh is one of just eight Ohio Valley Conference athletes recognized by the organization.
Burleigh returns for his senior campaign with plenty of praise and respect after earning his second preseason All-American recognition – joining his selection by Lindy Sports – along with Preseason All-OVC honors earlier this summer.
After being named to the All-OVC first team honors following a stellar junior season, Burleigh is set to anchor an offensive line unit which ranked as one of the best in the country a season ago. Burleigh was held responsible for just one sack on the season while pacing an offensive unit which ranked 24th nationally and first in the OVC in sacks allowed per game (1.25). As a squad, the Skyhawks posted a sack per dropback percentage of 4.79 percent to lead all league foes.
A native of Jackson, Tenn., Burleigh started in all 12 games for the Skyhawks at right guard while grading out at 84 percent or better all season. Manhandling opposing defenses, he was responsible for 42 knockdowns on the season.
Burleigh and the Skyhawks will officially open the 2017 regular season at home on Thursday, Aug. 31 against Clarion University at Hardy M. Graham Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. For individual game or season tickets, call the UT Martin ticket office at 731-881-7207.
