CARLY GONZALES NAMED 2017 NSCA ALL-AMERICAN STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING ATHLETE

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association has named former University of Tennessee at Martin standout Carly Gonzales a 2017 NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year for her performance in the weight room, playing field and classroom.
The NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year program recognizes those collegiate and high school athletes, whose athletic accomplishments reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning. These athletes are also recognized for their academic and personal accomplishments along with their integrity as student-athletes.
A native of Anaheim, Calif., Gonzales completed a clean sweep of postseason awards for her career as the All-Region accolade joins her All-OVC first and second team selections along with being named OVC Freshman of the Year in 2014. Gonzales wrapped up her senior campaign by leading the team with a .377 batting average, 53 runs scored, 12 doubles and 41 stolen bases while tallying three triples, two home runs and 22 RBIs.
Gonzales set a pair of program single-season records this season while serving as a major part of an OVC team record. She would conclude her career by reaching base in 35 consecutive games for a Skyhawk record while her 41 steals rank as a program high as well. Additionally, her 41 stolen bases were included in the team’s 147 total stolen bases which broke the OVC’s single-season team record and ranked third nationally.
Having started in 197 of 207 total games played over her four-year career, Gonzales leaves the program ranked in the top-10 in 14 career statistical categories. She ranks second in career batting average (.353), second in walks (90), second in stolen bases (88), second in runs scored (147), second in stolen bases (88), third in hits (217), third in doubles (44), fourth in hit by pitch (23), fourth in extra base hits (63), fourth in total bases (311), fifth in singles (154), ninth in at bats (614), eighth in triples (seven), ninth in slugging percentage (.507), 10th in RBIs (94) and 10th in games played (207).
In the weight room Gonzales was been a leader by example. Using her 5’ 6” frame, Gonzales posted a 230 lbs. squat max and 140 lbs. hang clean max at time of nomination. Additionally, she is a three-time OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient and graduated from UT Martin with honors.
