TUCSON, Ariz. – It was announced today that Connor Aube became just the fourth player in University of Tennessee at Martin history to tally Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American honors.

Aube joins Ben Upton (2014), Phil Sorensen (2011) and Wes Patterson (2008) as the only players in Skyhawk history to earn Freshman All-American status.

The voice of amateur baseball since 1958, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper spotlighted 113 total Freshman All-Americans in the 2017 class. Aube was one of six Ohio Valley Conference honorees and one of 23 outfielders on the prestigious list.

This award marks the second postseason accolade for Aube, who was also named an OVC All-Freshman last month. The Falmouth, Maine native logged a start in each of his 52 games played in the spring, leading the Skyhawks in runs scored (48) and stolen bases (15). He became just the second freshman in UT Martin’s Division-I history (since 1992) to lead the team in runs scored as a freshman while his 15 stolen bases ranked sixth in the OVC. Batting primarily in the leadoff spot, Aube hit .277 with 11 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 22 RBI’s while slugging .378 and reaching base at a .373 clip.

The 5-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting Aube improved his numbers in OVC play, batting .321 with a .431 slugging percentage and a .426 on-base percentage. He scored 27 runs while swiping nine stolen bases in 28 games (all starts).

Aube compiled 15 multi-hit games in 2017, tying for the team lead with a trio of four-hit performances (against Bethel on March 7, against Morehead State on April 9 and against Evansville on April 18). He also scored multiple runs on 11 different occasions (including four runs scored in the aforementioned game against Bethel) and boasted five multi-RBI outings – driving in a career-high five runs in the previously mentioned Morehead State contest. He also crushed southpaw pitching to the tune of a .357 batting average (20-for-56) and hit safely in 31 games, including a nine-game hitting streak from March 5 through March 19.

In addition to his offensive prowess, Aube was one of UT Martin’s best defensive players. Playing 43 games in left field and nine in center field, he sported a .980 fielding percentage with just two errors in 100 chances. He concluded his freshman campaign with a 24-game errorless streak.

Aube was a key member of a Skyhawk squad that shattered the program’s Division-I record for most wins (25) and most OVC victories (12) in a single season. UT Martin advanced to the OVC Tournament for the third time in program history under head coach Rick Robinson in 2017.
