UT MARTIN RODEO WRAPS UP REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE AT COSSATOT

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo squads put the finishing touches on the 2016-17 regular season this past weekend with a visit to Cossatot Community College.
The UT Martin women’s squad finished fourth with 130 total points while the men’s team placed sixth with 210 overall points.
Houston Herbert represented UT Martin in bareback riding, as he compiled the best score (69) in the short go.
In calf roping, Kayla Lombardo’s 3.0 seconds in the opening round ranked sixth in the field.
Colt Matthews and Robbie Van Holten each secured points for UT Martin in steer wrestling. Matthews came in fourth in both average (14.4) and in the short go (7.1) while ranking fifth in the opening round (7.3). Meanwhile, Van Holten finished third with a time of 6.9 seconds in the short go while placing fifth in average (14.9) and sixth in the first round (8.0).
Lombardo also put on a good showing in goat tying, as she placed in the top-six in all three phases. Her time of 7.2 seconds in the opening round was good enough to split second while she placed sixth in the short go with a time of 8.1 seconds. Overall, her 15.3 average split fourth.
Three UT Martin cowboys earned points in the team roping event. Ross Mitchell competed alongside East Mississippi’s Ethan Wheeler to place third in both average (16.6) and in the short go (8.0). The duo of Tucker Kail and Matthews also split sixth in the opening round with a time of 7.4 seconds.
UT Martin also found success in barrel racing, as three cowgirls generated points. Casey Allen led the way with the best time in the first round (14.71 seconds) before placing third in average (29.7) and fifth in the short go (14.99). Nealey Dalton placed third with a 14.9 in the short round and also came in fourth place after a 29.97 average. Ashley Brooks also was consistent with a fourth-place finish in the short go (14.93), a fifth-place effort in average (29.98) and a sixth-place performance in the opening round (15.05).
Ryan McDaniel was one of just two cowboys in the entire event to score in bull riding, as his 88 points in the second round were the highest of any rider in the field.
UT Martin will now prepare for the 2017 College National Finals Rodeo, which will take place in Casper, Wyo. on June 11-17.
