MARTIN, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle season comes to a close as Joe Martin was named Honorable Mention Smallbore All-American following the conclusion of the NCAA Championships in March. Martin posted a career best 583 in smallbore at Memphis on Oct. 29, before finishing the NCAA Regional Qualifier with 576 on Feb. 18.
Martin’s honor makes a total of eight All-American selections in the program’s history, the last being Dacotah Faught in 2015. The program has also yielded an NCAA individual champion, a Council de International Sports Military (CISM) bronze and gold medalist, an Olympian, an NRA Naitonal Champion, a USA Shooting National Champion, and a World Championships Team member.
The Skyhawk rifle team finished the season ranked 19th in the nation, continuing a 14-year consecutive Top-20 finish streak. UT Martin has now finished in the Top-20 nationally in 34 of the last 35 years.
In addition, The Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association recently announced the naming of nine current Skyhawk shooters to the 2016-17 Scholastic All-American Team. Those honored include Ashley Coots, Brigitte Curcio, Andre Delcalzo, Logan Hunt, Kaitlin Korinek, Joe Martin, Jennifer Plocinik, Alyson Sylvester and Alex Tamboli.
