MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 as the Skyhawks travel to Nashville to take on Atlantic Sun foe Lipscomb in a mid-week matchup. Wednesday’s contest between the Skyhawks and Bisons has been moved up to 2 p.m.

UT Martin (6-7, 0-3) is looking to bounce back off a trio of losses over the weekend as the Skyhawks opened up Ohio Valley Conference play against Tennessee Tech. The Golden Eagles were able to tally wins in all three contests by scores of 14-6, 4-3 and 9-6, as UT Martin was unable to capitalize with runners on base over the weekend stranding 29 runners over the three-game set.

Tyler Albright continued his early tear with another standout performance to begin conference play. The Algonquin, Ill. native has been the club’s top batter since early in the season posting an average of .444 with seven doubles and 15 RBI’s. Tanner Wessling (.340) and Connor Aube (.314) both have been key contributors to the UT Martin offense.

The Skyhawk pitching staff currently ranks as the top program in the conference with 145 strikeouts on the year, while also allowing the fewest home runs (6). Senior Jake Patzner (1-2, 9.00 ERA) is expected to make his fifth start of the season in Nashville. Lipscomb holds a 19-8 advantage all-time over UT Martin, including a 9-2 record when the two teams meet in the Music City.

The Bisons are led offensively by Cade Sorrells who has notched 19 hits and 14 RBIs on the season. Junior Blake Thomas (.346) leads the way offensively, while starters Jeffrey Passantino (0-0, 2.31 ERA) and Brady Puckett (2-2, 4.39 ERA) have combined for 52 strikeouts in 50 innings of work to anchor the pitching staff. Reliever John Pryor has provided quality innings out of the bullpen for Lipscomb holding opposing hitters to a .128 batting average in eight appearances, compiling 11 innings and fanning 10 along the way. Lipscomb bested Southeastern Conference opponent Auburn earlier this season, as the Bisons were able to pull off an 8-7 comeback win in 10 innings. Thomas connected for three hits on the day and Sorrells drove in three to spring Lipscomb in the win.
