BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Fresh off a pair of significant wins for the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team, a pair of Skyhawks swept adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for their strong performances against Austin Peay and Murray State.
Junior forward Ashton Feldhaus earned her first OVC Player of the Week honor and third consecutive OVC Newcomer of the Week honor after averaging 21 points, 10 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. She began her push for a fifth newcomer award of the season with a career-high 23 points while tallying nine rebounds against Austin Peay. She then capped off the week with 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to notch the Skyhawks first double-double of the season.
A native of Richmond, Ky., Feldhaus has taken her game to another level as of late, averaging 19.8 points per game over the last five contests. Over the course of her key five game stretch, she has improved her scoring over by nearly three points per game while eclipsing double figures in 13 contests overall.
Freshman guard Kendall Spray once again posted a strong week of performances en route to her second straight weekly honor and third overall after averaging 16 points per game while shooting over 40 percent from beyond the arc. She scored 14 points in the team’s three-point victory over Austin Peay before tallying 18 points in a road victory at Murray State – including her second four-point play of the season.
Hailing from Lebanon, Tenn., Spray leads all freshman scorers in the OVC with 13.1 points per game – including 16.3 ppg in league play. Spray has scored in double figures 14 times this season while ranking second in the OVC in three-point field goals made with 69. She currently ranks 12th nationally in three-point field goals made (69), 15th in three-point field goals attempted (177) and 19th in three-point field goals per game (3.14).
The duo will look to continue their hot play when the Skyhawks take their two-game winning streak to OVC foe Tennessee Tech for a midweek affair on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
