SIUE Game Notes
The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will honor its past while looking to snap a five-game Ohio Valley Conference losing streak against league rival SIUE on Saturday, Jan. 21. The game serves as Alumni Night and will include a recognition of the program’s 2015-16 OVC championship squad. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled for 4 p.m., serving as the front end of a doubleheader with the Skyhawk men’s basketball team.
The Skyhawks (4-15, 1-5 OVC) are looking to break free from the program’s longest conference losing streak since the 2009-10 season behind a supportive home court advantage. The squad will open its brief two-game homestand against SIUE, a team which has proved to be the Skyhawks most formidable opponent over the past several seasons.
UT Martin will look to rebound from yet another tight contest before ultimately falling at Eastern Illinois 80-70 in overtime. Freshman standout Kendall Spray posted a huge contest for the Skyhawks by tallying 33 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Spray knocked down eight three-pointers, finishing just one trifecta off the program record while posting the highest individual scoring performance for the Skyhawks since the 2014-15 season. Reigning OVC Newcomer of the Week Ashton Feldhaus also posted a strong performance, tallying 19 points along with six rebounds.
SIUE (6-13, 2-4 OVC) is hoping to build upon the team’s recent last second game-winner against Southeast Missouri on Wednesday evening. Lauren White hit a three-pointer with no time left on the clock to cap off the team’s 70-69 victory. White led the Cougars with 17 points followed by a career-high 16 from Amri Wilder. On the season, Donshel Beck leads the Cougars with 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Saturday’s matchup marks the 19th meeting between the two programs in series history with UT Martin holding a 12-6 advantage. The Skyhawks enter the contest holding a four-game winning streak against the Cougars – including an 86-50 home victory last season. SIUE last picked up a victory in the Elam Center on Feb. 9, 2013.
