The Skyhawks (3-8) enter the contest after challenging Southeastern Conference foe Missouri on Saturday afternoon before falling 80-69. The Skyhawks battled in the contest by knocking down a season-best 17 three-pointers on the afternoon, falling just one short of the program single-game record. Four Skyhawks scored in double figures, led by the play of guard duo Emanye Robertson and Kendall Spray with 15 points each. Robertson tallied 15 points, six assists and three rebounds in the contest while Spray knocked down a season-high five three-pointers.
UT Martin is led in scoring by sophomore Myah Taylor who averages 11.5 points per game. Taylor has paced the Skyhawks in scoring three times this season while tallying double figures in five of the team’s last six contests. Robertson is close behind, averaging 11.2 points and 4.6 assists per night.
Tuesday’s matchup will pit two of the program’s most dominating head coaches in UT Martin’s Kevin McMillan and DePaul’s Doug Bruno. McMillian ranks as the program’s all-time wins leader with an overall record of 145-91 – good for sixth in OVC history. Bruno has led DePaul to a 621-322 record in 31 seasons while leading the Blue Demons to 13 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
DePaul (7-4) enters the contest ranked No. 22 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and hot off a dominating 107-46 victory over Chicago rival Loyola on Sunday afternoon. Ranked all season, the Blue Demons have won three consecutive Big East championships while three of the team’s four losses have come against No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 UConn and No. 5 Baylor.
The Blue Demons are led by senior guard Jessica January who averages 16.5 points, 6.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game. January was recently named to the Big East Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the third time while being recognized as the conference player of the week twice. January is one of three players to average in double figures with Ashton Millender (12.8 ppg) and Jacqui Grant (11.3) rounding out the trio.
Tuesday’s matchup serves as the first meeting between the two programs in series history.
