UTM Game Notes

The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will look to close out a lengthy four-game road swing with a matchup at former Ohio Valley Conference rival Samford on Wednesday, Nov. 23 in a matinee contest on the eve of Thanksgiving. Tipoff from the Pete Hanna Center is scheduled for noon.

The Skyhawks (1-3) are looking to close out the team’s four-game road swing which has featured contests in three different state with a trip to Alabama. After a stretch which featured three games over the course of five days, the Skyhawks will look to get back on the winning track against Samford on Wednesday.

UT Martin dropped its last contest to two-time reigning Mid-American Conference champions Ohio by a 72-55 decision. The Skyhawks would play even for much of the contest but a key 16-0 run to close out the second quarter would prove to be the difference in the ballgame. In the contest, freshman standout Kendall Spray posted a career-high with 17 points while junior Ashton Feldhaus joined in the action with a 13-point performance for a personal-best.

The Skyhawks are coached by Kevin McMillan who is currently in his eighth season with a 143-85 record. McMillan - the two-time reigning Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year - ranks seventh on the OVC’s all-time wins leaderboard. Samford is coached by Mike Morris who owns a 243-186 record in 15 years leading the program.

Samford (1-3) is looking to get back on the right track after dropping back-to-back contests to Harvard and Rhode Island after defeating Memphis last week. The Bulldogs are led by Kassidy Blevins and her 15.3 points and 3.0 steals per game while Hannah Nichols also scores in double figures, averaging 13.0 points per game.

Wednesday’s matchup serves as the 15th meeting between the two former conference rivals with UT Martin holding a 9-5 series advantage. The Skyhawks broke a three-game losing skid to the Bulldogs with a narrow 52-50 home victory on Dec. 5, 2015.
