UTM Game Notes
The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will hit the road for a stretch which will feature four games over the course of seven days. The Skyhawks will play the second game of the stretch with a matchup against defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion North Carolina A&T on Monday, Nov. 14. Tipoff from the Corbett Sports Center is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CST.
The Skyhawks (0-1) will look to rebound from their season opening loss to No. 5 Louisville which scored early and often en route to a 100-57 victory. Last year’s OVC All-Newcomer honoree Myah Taylor led the Skyhawks in scoring, tallying 14 points and four rebounds in the contest. Junior Ashton Feldhaus also made her Skyhawk debut against the Cardinals after sitting out the past two seasons by scoring 12 points.
All 13 available players saw action for UT Martin in the season opener while preseason All-OVC selection Jessy Ward and junior Shy Copney missed the contest with injuries. Junior Janekia Mason earned a start in her Skyhawk debut, tallying eight points and six rebounds while Kendall Spray tossed in eight points of her own. The Skyhawks will look to cut their turnover margin down after notching an uncharacteristic 32 turnovers against Louisville.
The Skyhawks are coached by Kevin McMillan who is currently in his eighth season with a 142-84 record. McMillan - the two-time reigning Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year - ranks seventh on the OVC’s all-time wins leaderboard.
North Carolina A&T (0-1) dropped its season opener to Georgia Southern 65-50 after shooting just 30 percent from the field. The Aggies were led by Dana Brown who tallied 18 points and three rebounds while Alexus Lessears flirted with a double-double, tallying 10 points and eight rebounds in the contest.
Monday’s contest serves as the first meeting between the two program in series history.
