MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin football team held a simulated scrimmage this evening at Hardy Graham Stadium.
Tonight’s practice was No. 18 out of 27 scheduled practices this fall for the Skyhawks, who are coming off a 7-5 record in 2013. Tonight also marked the third of four scrimmages, although tonight’s scrimmage was mostly situational simulations in anticipation of UT Martin’s season-opener at the University of Kentucky on Aug. 30.
Redshirt junior wide receiver Rod Wright was the offensive star of the evening, hauling in two touchdown receptions. Defensively, redshirt juniors Taino Fears-Perez and Walter Evans each snagged interceptions.
“Tonight we were simulating our first opponent,” Skyhawk head coach Jason Simpson said. “I saw some big plays on both sides of the ball. We have some guys nicked up right now and I also saw some fatigue, which effected our tempo. But it was good to see some guys step in and make plays.”
UT Martin returns to action with Practice 19 on Thursday afternoon while the fourth and final scrimmage is set for Saturday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.
