MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin’s James Satterfield has been recognized as one of 38 returning performers on the College Football Performance Awards Punter Award Watch List, which was announced today.
Satterfield is the fourth Skyhawk to earn a spot on CFPA’s preseason watch lists, joining linebacker Tony Bell, quarterback Dylan Favre and kicker Jackson Redditt.
A 6-1, 171-pound redshirt senior out of Gallatin, Tenn., Satterfield booted 58 punts for 2,446 yards in 2013, an average of 42.2 yards per punt (ranking fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference). He had 10 punts of at least 50 yards, including a season-long 66-yard punt against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 23. He placed 24 punts inside the opponent’s own 20-yard line.
In two years as the primary punter at UT Martin, Satterfield has punted 99 times for 4,190 yards (average of 42.3 yards). His 73-yard punt at Tennessee Tech in 2012 ranked as the second-longest punt in school history while he also accounted for a 70-yard punt against Eastern Kentucky in 2012, the same year he garnered All-OVC second team accolades after setting the UT Martin single-season record with an average of 42.6 yards per punt.
The Skyhawks’ 2014 season opener is set for Saturday, Aug. 30 at Southeastern Conference member Kentucky. Kickoff for the nationally televised game on the SEC Network is scheduled for 11 a.m. CST.
