CHARLESTON, S.C. – Dylan Favre, a standout senior on the University of Tennessee at Martin football team, has been named to the College Football Performance Awards as one of 36 quarterbacks on its national watch list for the 2014 season.
A 5-10, 195 pound quarterback from Kiln, Miss., Favre is one of four players from the Ohio Valley Conference to earn a spot on the prestigious list. The initial watch list includes 36 returning performers, vying for the top quarterback award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.
Despite missing three weeks of action because of an injury, Favre played in nine games and made five starts at quarterback after transferring to UT Martin from Pearl River Community College en route to OVC All-Newcomer honors. He led the OVC and ranked second in the nation in completion percentage (.711, 101-for-142) and also ranked in the top-10 in the OVC in passing efficiency (148.9, second), completions per game (11.22, fourth), passing yards (1,081, seventh), touchdown passes (nine, seventh) and total offense (141.3 yards per game).
UT Martin is coming off a 7-5 record in 2013, its second straight winning season and third in the last four years. UT Martin kicks off the 2014 season at the University of Kentucky on Saturday, Aug. 30. Kickoff against the Southeastern Conference rival is set for 11 a.m. CST and will be nationally televised on the new SEC Network.
