SKYHAWK SOFTBALL INKS KACIE DAUGHERTY TO 2014 SIGNING CLASS
June 2, 2014
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin head softball coach Donley Canary has announced the addition of transfer Kacie Daugherty, a 5-4 utility player from Dyersburg State to the 2014 recruiting class. Daugherty will have two years of eligibility for the Skyhawks.
“Kacie is a young lady that we have been watching for several years,” said Canary. “She has a history of playing for very strong travel squads while posting promising numbers at her last two stops. She is a player that we feel very fortunate to add to our program. She runs extremely well, can hit at a high average, plays very hard and is a player that we can expect to compete for a starting spot at several positions. She gives us the ability to fill several holes in either the infield or outfield. It is just a bonus that we can grab a player of this quality from our local area.”
A native of South Fulton, Tenn., Daugherty saw action in 44 games for Dyersburg State while being named the team’s most valuable player and Golden Spike Award recipient. Daugherty ranked second on the Lady Eagles squad with a .370 batting average while notching nine doubles, three triples and one home run along with driving in 24 RBIs en route to first team all-conference honors. She led the team with 54 runs scored and 54 base hits. She posted a .493 slugging percentage while maintaining a .474 on-base percentage. She tallied a career-high four RBIs off her first career grand slam in a 3-for-5 performance against Volunteer State.
Prior to joining Dyersburg State, Daugherty played her freshman season at Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee State. She saw action in 46 games for the Tigers while posting a .230 batting average, one home run and 17 RBIs. She posted a breakout performance against Florida A&M, tallying a solo home run and drawing two walks.
Daugherty started for five years for head coach Curt Lee at South Fulton High School. She helped her squad to four district championships. In 2010, she guided SFHS to a regional championship and a third place finish at the State Championships. She was been named a four-time All-District selection. She led her team in stolen bases as an eighth grader and continued to hold that honor through her senior campaign. She had a career batting average of .453, which included hitting .510 as a freshman and .505 as a junior.
Daugherty will join an already decorated signing class which includes Alicia Hansen (Miamisburg, Ohio), Jodie Duncan (Munford, Tenn.), Savannah Dodson (Huntingdon, Tenn.), Hanna Jones (Harrisburg, Ill.) and Aeron Smith (Bowling Green, Ky.).
